How to Use Microscope Posters

How to Use Microscope Posters thumbnail
A microscope poster labels the parts of a microscope.

To use a microscope correctly, you must know how the microscope works and what the different parts do to make it function. For this purpose, posters of microscopes can be used as teaching tools to help explain to students how to use them. A microscope poster is typically an image of microscope that is enlarged to show its various parts. Microscope posters can illustrate modern microscopes, or they can depict microscopes from different eras, for use with science history lessons.

Instructions

    • 1

Display the microscope poster in a prominent place in the classroom, or temporarily post it in a central position in front of students.

    • 2

Read aloud the name of each part labeled on the microscope poster, and explain how each part contributes to the functioning of the microscope.

    • 3

Present a real microscope to the class. Ideally, each student would have one at his desk to follow along with; however, if this is not feasible, a single microscope will do.

    • 4

Make a connection between the poster and the microscope by pointing out the parts on the actual microscope. Another option is to point to a part of the microscope and have students say out loud the name of the part, identified on the poster.

    • 5

Leave the poster hanging on a wall or door in the classroom as a reminder of the lesson and a reference tool.
