Turn your red yarn hot pink.

Yarn is useful in many different projects and comes in many different colors, but you may not always find the exact shade you need at the store. If you're having trouble finding a hot pink yarn, you can dye your red yarn hot pink. You can't simply soak red yarn in hot pink dye. Instead, you have to use the red color of the yarn as part of the color ingredient. Combine violet and fuchsia dyes with the red from the yarn to get hot pink yarn.

  • 1 tablespoon violet powder dye
  • Medium-sized bowl
  • 1 tablespoon fuchsia powder dye
  • 2 cups hot water

Instructions

    • 1

Pour 1 tablespoon of violet powder dye into a bowl. Add 1 tablespoon of fuchsia dye to the bowl, as well.

    • 2

Add 2 cups of very hot water to the bowl of powdered dyes.

    • 3

Fill a large bucket with 3 gallons of hot water. Pour the dye into the bucket.

    • 4

Soak the red yarn under hot water. Make sure the yarn is unraveled and doesn't have any knots.

    • 5

Place the yarn in the bucket. Do your best to situate the yarn in the bucket to keep it from knotting.

    • 6

Stir the yarn in the bucket with a large, stainless steel spoon. Stir in a circular pattern to avoid knots.

    • 7

Continue to stir the water for 30 minutes. The longer the yarn is in the water, the deeper the color it will have.

    • 8

Pull the yarn out and rinse it under warm water until the water runs clear. When the water runs clear, rinse the yarn under cool water to finish.

    • 9

      Hang the yarn to dry.

Tips & Warnings

  • The dye will stain the bucket and anything else it comes in contact with. Use an old bucket, and always wear old clothing to prevent stains on your regular clothes.
