How Much Oil to Use in a Clay Diffuser With a Tea Light? thumbnail
Diffusers are available to complement every decor or special holiday occasion.

A few tiny drops of essential oil add a favorite or festive scent to your indoor living spaces. Aromatherapy is easy and affordable when you use reusable clay or ceramic diffusers, water and your favorite essential oil. Diffusers, which are also called fragrancers and vaporizers, typically consist of two parts: The top part is bowl shaped and holds the water and essential oil combination, and the bottom part holds the tea light candle. Genuine essential oils are very concentrated, and some can be expensive or difficult to find. When in doubt, less is always better than more to start with. To increase your fragrance level, simply add another drop of essential oil to your water. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Pour 1/4 cup water into the bowl-shaped top part of a standard diffuser.

    • 2

Add three to five drops of your favorite essential oil to the water.

    • 3

Place a burning tea light candle in the bottom opening of the diffuser.

    • 4

Replenish the water and essential oil as needed. The water and essential oil heat up and gradually evaporate.

Tips & Warnings

  • Essential oils are available in almost every scent imaginable. Research the different properties and uses for each scent. Essential oils can be inhaled using diffusers; mixed with carrier oils, such as sweet almond oil, for massage purposes; or added to your bath water for aromatic and therapeutic spalike treatments.

  • Do not leave your candle-lit diffuser unattended or on a flammable surface.

  • The tea light will generate enough heat to boil the water and create steam or vapor.

  • Take the time to research the positive and/or negative effects of using essential oils before infusing them into your indoor or outdoor living spaces.
