How to Fix an Embarq DSL 645 Modem
From time to time, you may face issues with your Embarq DSL 645 modem. It may not be able to connect to the Internet, or even if it does, the connection may get slower than usual. Before buying a new modem, it's more cost-effective--and easier--to troubleshoot certain basic issues to fix your DSL 645 modem.

Reset the DSL modem by pressing and holding the "Reset" button for about 10 seconds (this button is on the back of the 645 model). Continue holding the "Reset" until the "Power" light starts blinking. Open your Web browser and check if your Internet connection is working properly. If not, go to the next step.

Unplug the DSL 645 modem. Wait for about 10 minutes before plugging it back in. Sometimes, a simple restart can troubleshoot connection issues with this Embarq modem. If this doesn't work either, go to the next step.

Update driver software. Click on Start and select "Run..." Type "devmgmt" without the quotes and press "Enter." Scroll down to find "Modems." Double-click to expand it. Right-click on your "Embarq DSL 645" modem. Select "Update Driver software." Wait patiently as your Windows operating system automatically installs the latest drivers for the Embarq modem. Restart your computer, if prompted and check the connection. If this doesn't work, go to the next and final step.

Disable and then enable the modem. Go back to the point when you right-clicked on your "Embarq DSL 645" modem. Choose "Disable." Wait for a couple of minutes. Right-click on the modem again and select "Enable." Test your connection.
