How to Clean a Lasar in a PS2 Slim

The PS2 Slim's laser reads the CD's data and can get dirty after prolonged use.

You insert a game disc into your PS2 Slim and the words "Disc Read Error" appear on your TV screen. If even after cleaning the CDs you use, you still get no result, your next solution may be to clean the actual lens of the PS2 Slim's laser.

Things You'll Need

• Rubbing alcohol
• Cotton swabs
• Compressed air

Instructions

1. Open the disc tray door on the PS2 Slim.

2. Spray the compressed air on the laser and the surrounding areas. Be sure to follow the distance and time directions listed on the can in order to avoid damage to the laser.

3. Dip one end of the cotton swab in the alcohol, then gently rub the laser clockwise with the dipped end for 10 seconds.

4. Rub the laser with the dry end of the swab in the same manner you used when washing it.

Tips & Warnings

• There is a very high chance that you can damage your PS2, even if you correctly follow these steps. Always consider taking your PS2 to an authorized dealer before attempting any repairs of your own.
