How to Make a Sea Glass Wind Chime

Make a wind chime with your sea glass.

You can find sea glass on the beach when pieces of glass become tumbled by the ocean and sand. These sea glass pieces appear smooth and rounded. When you have a collection of sea glass, you can turn them into sea glass wind chimes to enjoy their beauty. The sea glass often will become fragile after they are moved around by the ocean waves, which makes them delicate to work with.

Things You'll Need

• Clamp
• Seashells
• Rotary tool with bits
• Twine
• Glue
• Sea glass
• Hot glue
• Metal or wood ring

Instructions

1. Drill a small hole in different seashells. You will need to clamp the seashell down to hold it in place, and use a rotary tool with a small bit size. Place the bit close to the seashell, and do not press too hard or it will break.

2. Thread twine through the seashells. Secure them in place by tying a knot. Make sure that you tie the seashells in the same location on each piece of twine so that they will make a noise when they hit each other.

3. Glue the pieces of sea glass onto the seashells. Use a strong adhesive to ensure that they will stay glued to the shells.

4. Place a dab of hot glue on a large metal or wood ring. You can purchase these at most hardware and craft stores. Tie one of the twine strings around the hot glue and allow it to dry.

5. Tie the rest of the twine with the seashells and sea glass around the metal or wood ring with the hot glue. Space them evenly apart around the ring.

6. Allow the glue to dry. Hang your wind chime outdoors. Cut a piece of twine long enough to hang the wind chime, and tie the ends of the twine adjacent from each other on the ring. Place hot glue on the areas of the ring where you plan to tie the twine to keep it from sliding around.
