How to Prepare and File Small Business Taxes
Small business income tax returns must be filed by any small business with assets of less than $10 million dollars. Forms for small businesses are determined by what type of business entity in question, whether it is a corporation, limited liability company or partnership. Small business income tax returns are required by the Internal Revenue Service each tax year and can be filed by mail or electronically.

1
Determine the tax form you must file for your small business and obtain the form from the Internal Revenue Service Web site (see Resources). The nature of different small businesses determines the type of tax return that must be filed.

2
File small business returns electronically or by mail. To file electronically, log on to the IRS' Web site and choose the "IRS E-File" link and follow the instructions provided for the tax form that needs filing by your small business. The online tax preparation company that you choose to file your small business tax form will guide you, step-by-step, through preparing the tax form correctly. Each line is explained to taxpayers, making the preparation process easier. File by mail by printing out the small business tax form you need, along with the instructions that go along with it and enter the business tax information. The instructions will explain each line individually if you do not understand or are having trouble with any part of the preparation.

Review all of the information on the tax form once it's been completed, whether filing by mail or electronically. Correct any mistakes that may have been made. If filing electronically, click on the "Submit My Return" button. If filing by mail, sign and date the return and mail it to the Internal Revenue Service location listed on the instructions for the form being filed that applies to the state in which you live.
