How to Make a Leather Braided Cross Necklace
Leather is often used to make jewelry such as necklaces and bracelets. It is a good alternative for jewelry for those who have metal allergies and are appropriate for men, women and children. One style that leather is sometimes used for is to make leather cross necklaces. You can make your own leather cross necklace by braiding together lengths of leather cording. Use a piece of string to tie three pieces of leather cording together. The three pieces of leather cording should be the same length. The length you want depends on how large you want the finished cross to be.

Braid the three pieces of leather cording you tied together. Do this as you would braid hair. Bring the first cord over the top of the second cord. This will bring the second cord into the first position and the first cord into the second position. Now bring the third cord over the top of the cord in the second position. It will put the second cord in the third position and the third cord in the second position. Bring the cord in the first position over the top of the cord in the second position again and then the cord in the third position over the top of the cord in the second position. Repeat this entire process until the three cords are completely braided to your desired length.

Tie the bottom of the three cords together with a second piece of string. Use scissors to trim any excess ends of cording off. This will create the vertical arm of your cross.

Use another piece of string to tie three more pieces of leather cording together. All three pieces of cording should be the same size.

Braid these three pieces of cording together in the same manner you created the cross’s cross bar. However, once you have braided half of the cording, place the vertical arm of the cross you finished in the middle of the cording you are working with. Continue to braid around the vertical arm, using the same braiding method you have been using. This will entwine the vertical arm and the cross bar of the cross together. Continue braiding until you achieve your desired length.

Tie off the bottom of the three cords with a piece of string. Trim off any excess cording with a pair of scissors to finish your cross pendant.

Cut a piece of leather cording. This will be the necklace that you add to your cross pendant. Feed the end of the leather cording through one of the holes between the braiding of the cross on the vertical arm. Tie the ends of the piece of leather cording together to finish your necklace.
