Do-It-Yourself Beak for a Costume

Do-It-Yourself Beak for a Costume thumbnail
Making an animal beak for a costume can be simple.

Knowing how to make a beak is necessary for those looking to make their own animal costume at home. A costume beak can be easily made using a few items many people may already have lying around the house, and it requires little know-how to complete. A costume beak can be altered to look different depending on what animal you're looking to fashion the costume after, from a duck or bird to something more exotic like a penguin. With some tips and guidance, however, a costume beak can be simple to make.

Things You'll Need

  • 2 baseball hats

Instructions

    • 1

Rip the brims off of two old baseball caps to act as the base of the costume beak. Place the brims one on top of the other so they look like the bill of an animal, such as a duck.

    • 2

Secure the two hat brims together using a hot glue gun. Let it dry.

    • 3

Paint the brims a color to match the costume you are creating. For example, orange would work for a duck, or black can be used for a penguin. Let it dry.

    • 4

Cut a piece of elastic so that it can stretch around the back side of your head. Attach the elastic ends to either side of the beak with the hot glue gun so that the elastic acts as a strap to hold the beak in place on the face.

Tips & Warnings

  • If the costume is for a child, let them help decorate the beak with paints.

  • Take care not to burn your fingers when using the hot glue gun.
