How to Get a GED in Massachusetts
The General Education Development (GED) exam tests your knowledge in writing, reading, social studies, math and science and signifies that you have the same level of knowledge as someone that graduated high school. Many places of employment require a GED as a minimum-level requirement for workers. To earn your GED, you must take and pass all levels of the test. You can retake the exam if you do not pass the first time. In Massachusetts, the GED exam is offered in both English and Spanish.

Prepare for the test by taking a course. The GED exam is not easy to pass so it's smart to get ready by taking a preparation course. If you live in Boston, the Boston Public Schools offer free courses at many high schools. You can also often find courses at local community colleges. Call the Massachusetts Adult Literacy Hotline at 1-800-447-8844 to find out where there is a GED course near you.

Check that you meet the requirements to take the GED exam. In order to take the exam, you must have a letter from the school that you have officially withdrawn from the school if you are 16 or 17 years old. Anyone 18 or older can take the exam. You must also be a resident of Massachusetts and not be enrolled in a high school program.
