Boil water on a stove to make steam. Turn off the heat and remove the pot from the burner. Bend over the pot and let the steam rise over the face for 10 minutes. This steam cleaning softens the debris in the pores and lets it drain out.

Create a pore cleanser. Mix in a bowl 2 parts of table salt and 1 part buttermilk or milk. Stir with a spoon to make a paste. Apply the paste to clogged pores with the fingers. Massage the paste gently into the skin for one to three minutes. The milk or buttermilk has lactic acid that exfoliates the skin by removing debris and dead skin. The tiny granules of salt enter the pores to clean them out.

Rinse off the paste with cool water. Use your hands to splash water onto your face. Cool water closes the pores and makes then appear smaller or smoother.

Visit a dermatologist. Think about medical procedures to treat the large pores, if it is within your budget. Ask the doctor to discuss your various options. For many people, microdermabrasion is a good choice, because the technique uses tiny crystals to slough off the top skin layer, which promotes new skin growth. The new skin is smoother in texture and pores look smaller.
