How to Make a Homemade Medieval Blacksmith Costume
A medieval blacksmith costume can be a popular choice to wear to a Halloween party or a themed get-together, like a Lord of the Rings party. The medieval blacksmith is characterized by his helmet, worn to protect against the fiery blacksmith tools, and a belted tunic. Purchasing such a costume can be expensive in a shop, and making one at home can be a cost-effective alternative. With just a few basic items, making a medieval blacksmith costume can be simple and rewarding.

1
Blow up a balloon until it is roughly the size of the head of the person who will wear the costume.
-
2
Mix equal parts water, flour and glue in a mixing bowl with a spoon. About 1/2 a cup of each will work well.

3
Tear a newspaper into wide strips. Drench the strips in the flour mixture and drape over the balloon. The strips should round smoothly over the top of the balloon and hang at the bottom, making a subtle bell shape. Continue until the balloon is draped all around with the strips. Let dry.

4
Cut out an oval from the front of the newspaper helmet, creating an opening where a face can show through. Paint it a dark color like gray or black and let dry.
-
5
Cut the sleeves off of a brown T-shirt and cut open the side seams of the T-shirt. Wear black leggings, a long-sleeve black shirt and leather shoes, then place the cut T-shirt over the head, letting it hang down the body like a tunic. Secure a belt around the waist and over the tunic and finish by placing the blacksmith helmet over the head.
