DIY Kenwood Auxiliary Input Adapter

Play different audio devices through your Kenwood Aux stereo system.

Many Kenwood car stereo systems now come with a built-in auxiliary (AUX) port. This port allows you to connect outside devices like MP3 players, CD players and even televisions and DVD players to the stereo system. However, many of these devices do not fit into the standard 3.5mm audio AUX port. Because of this, you must use a variety of different adapters to connect the hardware to your system.

Things You'll Need

  • 3.5mm to RCA audio splitter cable
  • 3.5mm to 3.5mm cable
  • RCA to USB adapter

Instructions

    • 1

Insert the 3.5mm to 3.5mm cable into the auxiliary port. You can now connect any device with a headphone port, such as an MP3 player or portable CD player (or a laptop) to the connection. Switch the stereo to "AUX" and the audio from the connected device plays through the connection.

    • 2

Insert the 3.5mm end of the 3.5mm to audio RCA cable into the AUX port. Plug the red and white ends of the RCA connection into the "Audio Out" ports on the TV or DVD player (or gaming system). This sends the audio from the connected device to the Kenwood stereo receiver.

Leave the 3.5mm to audio RCA cable connected, then plug the RCA to USB adapter into the open RCA connections. This is helpful if you have a flash drive with music you want to connect. Plug the flash drive into the USB connection port and switch the receiver to "AUX." It is now possible to play the connected audio just as you do with a standard MP3 player.
