How to Configure Java in Linux
Java is a software platform created by Sun Systems for Internet browsers to run certain program applets, such as information forms, games and multimedia. You may want to change certain settings in Java to make it run better with your system. If you have Linux, you can configure Java settings with the GNOME desktop application.

Open a command prompt Terminal and type in "sudo aptitude install sun-java6-jre sun-java6-plugin" followed by the "Enter" key. This downloads and installs the newest version of Sun Java to your system, along with a control panel.

Go to "System" on the desktop menu and click on "Preferences." Click on "Sun Java 6 Plugin Control Panel."

Click on the menu and application tabs to change and configure the settings of Java on your system. There are options on changing the cache, configuring Java's role in your Web browsers and choosing to show or hide the console, among other system-specific options.
