Jute rugs are made from environmentally friendly vegetable fibers from the jute plant, found mostly in India, Bangladesh, Pakistan and China. Most jute rug manufacturers recommend regular vacuuming because dirt can accumulate and become embedded in the textured weave of the rugs. Avoid steam cleaning because moisture can damage the natural fibers. Should your pet have an accident on your rug, the best chance at removal is immediate treatment.
Step 1
Blot the stain with paper towels. If the stain is already set, use wet paper towels. Continue blotting until the towel is no longer picking up color. Do not rub at the stain, as it can damage the fibers in the jute rug and spread the stain. Avoid paper towels with print; the color from the print can transfer to the rug.

Add 1/2 cup of white vinegar to 1/2 cup of water and mix in a bowl.
Step 3
Dampen a white towel with the vinegar and water mixture. Do not soak your towel or sponge to avoid dripping the mixture on another part of the rug.
Step 4
Blot the stained area with the dampened towel or sponge.
Step 5
Dry the rug with a hairdryer or let it air dry.
Step 6
Sprinkle baking soda on the spot and let it sit overnight. Then vacuum the rug.
