How to Repair Venetian Blind Ladder

Venetian window blinds can be a practical choice for homeowners because they are available in a variety of styles and colors. These blinds operate with a string ladder systems that holds the slats. The slat can be adjusted with the tilt wand. After continued use, the string ladders may become worn from the tilting the slats against them. It is possible to repair the string ladders with a few basic tools to get them working properly again. Fixing the blinds can save you money, rather than purchasing a new unit.   • Flat head screwdriver

      Completely extend the venetian blinds by gently pulling down on the lift cord. Use the tilt wand to adjust the slats, so they are facing out in the open position.

      Remove the blind from the window by lifting them out of the brackets and lay them on a flat work surface. Stack the cords in a neat pile so they do not get tangled.

      Pop off the end caps with a flat head screwdriver in the underside of the bottom rail or long metal piece of the blind. Slide off the bottom rail cover to reveal the knots at the end of the string ladder.

      Untie the knot in the end of the string ladder or snip it above the knot. Pull the string ladders off the tilt tube in the head rail at the top of the blinds. Cut off the string ladder if it is difficult to remove.

      Slide the old ladders off the sides of the slats. Insert the slats into the replacement ladders. Hook the top of the string ladder to the groove in the tilt tube. Feed the end of the string ladders through the openings in the bottom rail. Tie a knot in the end of the string ladder and slide the bottom rail back into place.

      Hang the blinds back above the window. Pull the cord on the blinds and make sure the string ladders work properly.
