How to Lubricate a Gear-Driven Stereo Turntable
If you have an old turntable, chances are that bearings and gears are some of the internal components. Even though these types of turntable are considered obsolete by today's digital standards, the machines still function properly and are useful, if they are well maintained. That's why it's important to oil the gears and bearings on your turntable regularly. The good news is that lubricating the parts is a fairly straightforward process that hardly takes up any time at all.

1
Turn off your turntable and remove the power cable from the outlet it's plugged into.
-
2
Use your fingers to gently lift the platter (circular plate that the record sits on) off the spindle it sits on and set the platter aside.
-
-
3
Use a cotton swab to clean any old or excess oil (or grime) from the spindle itself.
-
4
Squirt two or three drops (no more) of your turntable bearing oil or sewing oil onto the spindle and then place the platter back on the spindle. Don't push the platter onto the spindle. Instead, let it gently slide down the spindle so as to work the oil around.
