How to Install Outside Thermometers
Outside thermometers allow you to monitor the outside temperature from the comfort of your own home. Most outdoor thermometers consist of an outdoor sensor that monitors the outside temperature and an indoor receiver which displays the temperature from the outdoor sensor. Proper siting of the outdoor sensor is critical to be able to read the correct outside temperature. Locations that receive high amounts of solar radiation are especially poor because they will read an artificially high temperature. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Select a location for the outdoor sensor portion of your outdoor thermometer. Select a location that is shaded almost entirely all day--a north side of your home works great. Keep it away from windows, exhaust fan outlets or other places that may cause artificial readings.
-
2
Look at your outdoor sensor to see how it is mounted. Some sensors have a mounting plate that you must screw to the wall first and then snap on the sensor. Others have a single hook on the back, like a picture frame, that you slide on to a protruding screw or nail.

3
Install lithium batteries into your outdoor sensor if your temperature falls below 32 degrees F, otherwise you may use alkaline batteries in the outdoor sensor.
-
4
Screw the outdoor sensor wall plate to the wall or screw a single screw into the wall. If you are screwing a single screw into the wall to hang the outside sensor on, allow to protrude from the wall 1/4- to 1/2-inch. Snap the outdoor sensor on to the wall plate by pushing with gentle pressure or hang it on the single screw.

5
Install alkaline batteries into your indoor receiver. Set your indoor receiver in a location that is within operating distance from your outdoor sensor.
