How to Understand GPS Navigation Devices for Cars

Understanding your car's GPS navigation system isn't as complicated as you might think.

Understand the GPS navigation device in your car is important not only for your convenience, but also for your safety. Making yourself familiar with the basics of your device requires only a few seconds and can make the navigation system much easier to use and access. Most car GPS devices follow the same basic setups, making them user-friendly and quick to access.

Instructions

1. Familiarize yourself with the power controls of the GPS device. Most power buttons are on the top or side of the device. They will be marked with a small circle and dash, the default symbol for power.

2. Click the menu button on the GPS and select the "Drive To" button.

3. Press the "Search" button to search for an address to drive to. Be clear and concise in your search. This simple menu is the basis of how a car GPS works.

4. Click back out into the main menu and select the "Maps" button. In this menu you can access different map views, traffic views, etc.

5. Click back into the menu and select the "Settings" button. Here you can access all the advanced settings for your GPS. You can select the default route settings such as quickest routes or scenic routes, and you can also select your default map settings.
