How to Program a Remote for a Car Alarm

How to Program a Remote for a Car Alarm thumbnail
Car alarms feature programmable keyless remotes.

Like keyless entry and automatic starter remotes, car alarm remotes are programmed from your vehicle's driver seat. Using the remote and your ignition key, programming requires a certain sequence of key turns and button presses, and requires no previous experience. You can program or reprogram your alarm as often as you would like to change the signals if a remote is lost. Once programmed, your remotes will be ready to use immediately with your car's alarm.

Instructions

    • 1

Enter your vehicle and open the driver's side door. Insert your key into the ignition and turn to the "Run" position.

    • 2

Press and release the "Valet/Program" button on the remote once within 15 seconds, and then press and hold the button again. Wait until the car chirps or the horn sounds and continue holding the button.

    • 3

Press the button on the remote that you would like to program to your alarm while still holding the "Valet/Program" button.

    • 4

Wait for the car to again chirp or honk before releasing the button to indicate successful programming.

    • 5

Release the "Valet/Program" button to end the programming sequence.
