1. Contact your state licensing board about the appropriate requirements to open an adult daycare center. You will required to have a daycare operator license. Requirements may include taking a test, passing an exam, passing a test or completing inspection of your daycare center. Most states also require a background check which excludes such crimes such as forgery, sexual abuse and assault.

2. Write a business plan which consists of a mission statement, financial costs, marketing analysis and company outlook. Include information on total start up costs for banks and financial institutions. Secure funding. Utilize business templates, software or professional help to complete your business plan. Choose a name. Decide what kind of adult daycare you want to open such as a social, medical or specialized business.

3. Search for a business location. Look for high-traffic areas that are easily accessible to customers. Look for commercial properties in prime locations such as a busy intersection or street. Consider the amount of space needed for your new business. Find a location that is built out in order to lower starting costs, and find a location that has adequate parking. Contact a real estate agent about prospective properties.

4. Legalize your business. Apply for your federal, state and local income tax numbers. Register your adult daycare center as a sole proprietorship or limited liability company. Secure all permits and licenses before opening for business. Contact the zoning department for location compliance.
