How to Dry Bathroom Caulk Faster

How to Dry Bathroom Caulk Faster thumbnail
Caulk must be dry before taking a shower or bath.

Most bathtubs and showers require caulk around any edge that touches a wall or floor. Without the seal provided by the caulk, water could get beneath the tub or shower and cause dangerous mold problems. One of the most frustrating aspects of applying new caulk in a bathroom is waiting for it to dry, as it leaves you unable to dry or bathe until it's completely cured, sometimes up to 48 hours. The drying time can be sped up by providing an ideal environment that consists of heat and air flow. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Plug in a space heater and point it in the direction of the caulk. Keep the heater at least 2 feet away from anything flammable.

    • 2

Set the heat to medium-high. If the heater has a built-in thermostat, set it between 75 and 80 degrees F. The heater will not only provide warm temperatures, but it will also reduce humidity.

    • 3

Plug in a fan and put it right outside of the bathroom door. Point the fan so it blows inside the bathroom.

    • 4

Set the fan speed to low, just enough to make air movement, but not enough to have much of an effect on the room's temperature.

Tips & Warnings

  • Let the caulk dry for at least 15 hours before you use the shower.
