How to Become a GM Tailor in Ultima Online
Ultima Online offers the whole smörgåsbord of MMORPG (Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game) experience, from group adventuring to player-versus-player combat. Since the game has developed a rudimentary economy, it bodes well for a player to make extra money though crafts, such as tailoring or mining. Each class of craftsman should use different tactics to maximize his effectiveness and learn quickly to become a Grandmaster, or GM.

1
Make your starting attributes conducive to tailoring if you are starting a new character, by setting your starting strength to 50, your intelligence to 20, and your dexterity to 10 (it makes sense that dexterity should govern tailoring, though the game does not function this way); strength is the primary attribute needed since tailoring requires carrying abundant heavy supplies. If you are not starting a new character, then increase your level as needed to reach these minimum stats.

2
Buy and equip a war axe from a weapons vendor early in the game. A war axe will build strength quickly since it is heavy to swing and can also chop wood (lumberjacking is a good way to build strength and make extra money). It also has a sharp edge, meaning you can skin animals and shear sheep with it.

3
Allocate your 100 available points into tailoring, magery, and carpentry (50 for tailoring, 49 for magery, and 1 for carpentry), since this will give you a solid tailoring foundation, allow you to cast the spell "Recall," which lets you teleport instantly and allows you to combine your tailoring abilities with carpentry to make new wares; it will also give you starting supplies. Each player starts with 100 points to allocate between crafts.
-
4
Double click your sewing kit in your inventory to view the items that you can make. By double clicking an option, you are telling your character to make that object. Each successfully made object will increase your expertise (level) in tailoring.
-
5
Earn your materials yourself as a tailor; you will have to visit specific shops in each city to turn wool into thread and yarn, and yarn into cloth, but you will save money. When gathering materials, take as little with you as possible, gather until you cannot carry much more, and use your recall spell to go back to a tailoring shop to convert them.
-
6
Focus on tailoring objects that are moderately difficult for your character--which earn experience quickly while not wasting too many materials. More difficult objects will waste more materials if you fail to construct them.
-
7
Produce objects in sets of three next to a vendor, and directly to that vendor. If you produce more than three at a time, you may end up with extra, since vendors will generally only take 10 to 20 of one object until they won't stock any more.

Tips & Warnings
Leave a little extra room in your equipment, since tailoring will increase the weight of the aggregates instead of decreasing the weight, as one would expect.
When buying from vendors, try to buy on bulk; if a vendor knows you want an item, she will charge more for it until she runs out.
