How to Decorate Your Bedroom Door

A little paint goes a long way in creating custom designs for your bedroom door.

Most people pay careful attention to different elements in their bedroom such as the color scheme, flooring and accessories. But there is one important aspect of the bedroom that often goes unnoticed: The bedroom door is usually last to be decorated--if at all--even though it's a great place to show off your personal style. If your bedroom door needs to be spruced up, use some creativity to get the look that you desire.

• Wrapping paper
• Decoupage glue
• Contact paper
• Masking tape
• Photos
• Magazine pictures
• Poster boards
• Acrylic paints
• Permanent marker
• Wall decals
• Stencils
• Paint brushes

Instructions

1. Dress up the door with wrapping paper that matches the season or even your mood. Attach the wrapping paper to the door using decoupage glue, contact paper or masking tape. There are numerous colors, designs, and textures of wrapping paper from which to choose.

2. Gather photos of things that are of particular interest to you. Use reusable adhesive to tack the photos to the door. It's best to use photos that are different sizes for the most interesting effect.

3. Hang a collage on the door. Cut out magazine pictures that you like and glue them to a large poster board. Hang the collage on the door with reusable adhesive.

4. Involve your friends in the decorating process. If you have a friend over, dip her hand in bright-colored paint and ask her to leave her handprint on the door. Use a permanent marker to note her name, time and date of the visit.

5. Use wall decals of things that you are interested in. For example, if you like tropical settings, then use wall decals of large palm trees and surfboards. Or use wall decals of items associated with your bedroom décor. For example, if you have a rockstar theme in the bedroom, use decals of musical notes on your door.

6. Use stencils and acrylic paint to paint designs on the door. Some popular choices include swirly lines, circles, squares and hearts.

7. Place a large poster board on the door. Have your guests sign the poster board with notes, doodles or quotes. Leave it up to your guests to write what they like.

8. Splatter paint the door with a variety of colors. Dip your paintbrush into the paint until its half-covered. Flick your wrists up and down or side to side as you hold the brush to splatter paint the door. Remember to cover all nearby surfaces with a drop cloth to keep paint from splattering in the wrong areas.
