How to Mitre Corners in Blanket Binding
When adding binding to a blanket, it is important to mitre the corners of the binding to create a smooth, finished look. Blanket binding features woven edges that will not fray. It is important to keep in mind when sewing binding to a blanket that you will be working with two fabrics of different weights and textures, and setting your sewing machine to a loose stitch tension will reduce the chance of either fabric puckering.
Instructions

1
Insert the blanket's edge between the open folds of the blanket binding, with the narrow binding side facing up.
-
2
Pin the binding to the blanket with straight pins.
-
-
3
Sew the binding to the blanket as close to the edge of the binding as possible with the sewing machine. Begin sewing in the middle of one of the blanket's sides.
-
4
Sew down the length of the side and all the way through the end of the first corner. Remove the blanket and binding from beneath the sewing machine's pressure foot and clip the loose threads.
-
5
Fold the binding around the blanket's corner to form a neatly mitred, 45-degree angle pleat on both the top and bottom sides of the blanket. Pin the pleat in place.
-
6
Place the blanket binding back under the sewing machine pressure foot at the inside edge of the mitred pleat. Continue sewing around the blanket, using the same method to mitre each corner.
