Let Your Creative Juices Flow When Designing Your Kitchen Remodel

Remodeling a tiny kitchen does not require you to completely perform a full-scale remodel. Changing a few things can open your space up. Consider the size of the items in your kitchen when you design your kitchen remodel. Scale large items down in your kitchen. For example, if you have large canisters on your counter, purchase smaller versions for a more balanced look and feel to the kitchen. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

Remove an adjoining wall in your kitchen to open it up. Make sure the wall is not a load bearing wall. If you do not know how to do this; hire a contractor for this job. If you rent; seek permission from your landlord before you remove any walls in your rental unit. Removing a wall in a tiny kitchen dramatically opens the kitchen and possibly adjoins it to another room in the house, also opening that room.

Install mirrored backsplash tiles behind your kitchen sink and stove. Consider installing some of the mirrored backsplash tiles on the opposite wall in your kitchen as well. This provides an illusion of a larger space in your kitchen by allowing light to emit and reflect throughout the kitchen.

Replace your stove and oven with a smaller, built-in version. When selecting a built-in stovetop, consider one that has drawers on the bottom for storage. This saves space in your tiny kitchen by removing your full-sized oven and providing more storage for your items.

Purchase bar stools for seating in your kitchen. A traditional kitchen table and chair set may take up much needed space in a tiny kitchen. Bar stools come in a variety of shapes and sizes. Placing bar stools along a counter top or possibly against a bar in the kitchen frees up floor space and provides a designated area for eating.

Paint your kitchen walls a light color. Light colors give an illusion that a room is larger. Consider white, cream, beige, light green or a pale yellow as paint colors. For an added decorative touch, stencil a design over the entryway and windows in your kitchen.
