How to Refill an Echo SRM231 String Trimmer
The Echo SRM-231 trimmer is a combination line trimmer and brush cutter. Like any other trimmer, the Echo trimmer requires line replacement from time to time. Echo recommends using .095 nylon trimmer string on the SRM-231. Nylon trimmer string is available at home improvement centers. The Echo trimmer has a molded loop on the side of the spool to make refilling the Echo SRM-231 a straightforward process. The spool unlocks from the Echo trimmer without removing any other components from the trimmer head. Does this Spark an idea?

3
Cut a 40-foot piece of line from the stock spool of .095 trimmer line with a pair of household scissors or a utility knife. Insert one end of the line into the loop molded on the side of the trimmer spool. Pull the trimmer line through the loop until one end of the line is 6 inches longer than the other end and the line is tight against the loop.

Place your finger in between the two ends of the line, and wrap the line tightly around the spool in the direction of the arrow on the top of the spool. Continue wrapping the line around the spool until there is only 8-inches of line left on each end. Insert the ends of the line into the tow opposite notches on the spool.

Insert the spool into the trimmer head housing, pulling the two ends through the eyelets on the housing. Hold the trimmer head housing with one hand, and turn the spool counterclockwise with your free hand until the spool stops. Push the end of the spark plug wire back over the spark plug.
