How to Connect Pioneer DVD Recorders to Satellite
A Pioneer DVD recorder can burn programming from an audio-video source, such as subscription satellite television, to a DVD for later enjoyment. When connected in between the satellite receiver box and a TV, the Pioneer DVD recorder can also be used as a pass-through component for watching satellite television without recording to disc. The setup requires two sets of composite AV cables with color-coded plugs that match the jacks on the back of each component.

Connect the satellite receiver to the Pioneer DVD recorder by inserting the white, yellow and red plugs on one end of a composite AV cable into the corresponding AV OUT jacks on the back of the satellite receiver. The plugs on the other end connect to the AV IN jacks on the back of the Pioneer component. White and red connect to left and right audio, respectively. The yellow plug is the video connection.

Insert the three plugs on one end of the second composite cable into the AV OUT (playback) jacks on the Pioneer DVD recorder.

Connect the three plugs on the other end to a set of AV inputs on the back of the TV. Most modern TVs have more than one set of input jacks, labeled Input 1, Input 2, Input 3.

Turn on the components, then press and release the "Input" button on the TV remote control several times until the signal from the Pioneer DVD recorder appears.

Tips & Warnings
To watch satellite TV without recording, simply turn on the Pioneer DVD recorder and make sure the TV input is set to the jacks connecting the set with the DVD recorder by pressing the "Input" button on the TV remote as described in Step 4. Use the satellite receiver box to change channels.
Connect the composite cables before hooking the components up to the electricity.
