How to Recycle a Cubicle
When the economy changes and businesses lay off workers, companies are left with furniture and cubicles that are no longer needed. Rather than send these cubicles to the landfill, recycle the cubicles for reuse. By recycling the cubicles, you reduce waste and create refurbished cubicles that other companies might want to buy for their offices.
Things You'll Need
- Screwdriver
- Cloth
- Scissors
- Staple gun and upholstery staples
- Sandpaper
- Paint
Instructions
-
-
1
Remove the post caps and screws that hold the metal cap on top of the posts. Take off the cap to expose the post risers and "change of height" filers" inside the posts.
-
2
Slide off the finish filer that covers the top edge of the panel.
-
-
3
Lift out the panel from in between the posts.
-
4
Remove the fabric from the panel. Try to remove it in one piece so that you can use it as a pattern to make new fabric coverings.
-
5
Cut the new fabric to size. Stretch it across the panel, stapling it securely to the panel along the sides, top and bottom.
-
6
Sand the surface of the posts and all metal surfaces to smooth out any dings or scratches.
-
7
Repaint the posts. Spray paint works well for this application. Allow the paint to dry.
-
8
Slide the new panel into place when the paint is dry. Replace the finish filer on top of the panel.
-
9
Secure the metal post cap to the top of the posts, and reinstall the plastic post cap.

Tips & Warnings
You can use other materials for the cubicle walls as well, such as wood, panes of glass or even "skins" (see Cubeskinz in Resources).
