How to Convert Real Player Videos to Media Player

Many file compression types are proprietary, meaning they will only run in a software player made for that type. To that end, a file that's only made to run in Real Media Player won't play in Windows Media Player. But, by using conversion software, you can easily convert a Real Media video file into one that will play in Windows Media Player.

Instructions

Media-Convert.com

1. Go to the Media-Convert website (see Resources for download link). Click on "Choose File" near the top left of the screen.

2. Browse through your computer's drives until you find the file you wish to convert. Double-click on the file name.

3. Click on the "Output format" drop-down menu. Select "Windows Media Video (.wmf.)"

4. Click "OK" on the center right portion of the screen. Allow the website to convert the Real Video file to a Windows Media file. The conversion is an automatic process that may take several minutes.

5. Right-click on the converted media file. Select "Save link as." The link will be next to a green icon with a down arrow, and will end in ".wmv." Follow the on-screen directions to save the converted video file to your hard drive.

6. Go to the folder you saved the converted file to. Double-click on the converted file to make sure that it works. If the file does not work, repeat the conversion process.

AVS Video Converter

1. Go to the AVS website (see Resources for download). Follow the on-screen instructions to download the AVS Video Converter software.

2. Double-click on the downloaded file. Follow the on-screen instructions to install the software.

3. Launch AVS Video Converter from the start menu from the AVS4YOU folder. Click "Browse" from the main program screen.

4. Browse through your drives and find the file you wish to convert. Double-click on the file.

5. Click "To WMV" from the top of the main program window. In the text box next to "Output File Name," enter the directory for the converted file to be copied to.

6. Click "Convert Now!" at the bottom left of the main program screen. Allow the program to convert the file.

Ultra RM Converter

1. Go to the AONE website (see Resources for download link). Follow the on-screen instructions to download Ultra RM Converter.

2. Double-click on the downloaded file. Follow the on-screen instructions to install the software.

3. Double-click on the Ultra RM Converter icon on the desktop. When the "Please register your copy" windows appears, click "Later."

4. Click "Add Files" on the top left of the main program window. Browse your drives and double-click on the file to be converted.

5. Click on the "Output Format" drop-down menu. Select "General Video" and then "WMV - Windows Media Video."

6. Click the "Convert" button. Allow the program to convert the video file.

Tips & Warnings

• On the main screen of Ultra RM Converter you can select the video quality, audio quality, width/height, and aspect ratio of the converted video. The better the video quality the larger the converted video will be.

• The AVS Video Converter places a water-mark over the converted video until the full version is purchased.

• The RM Converter will only convert half of a video file until the full version is purchased.
