How to Convert Mac M4V to MP4

You can convert M4V files to MP4 files on a Mac.

Files with the M4V and MP4 extensions both contain MPEG-4 video content. Since the file formats are so similar, you can switch between them on a Mac by simply changing the file extension. The M4V extension is designed to play in the iTunes application. Converting an M4V file to an MP4 file may be necessary if you want to play the file on a different computer, program or device.

• Mac computer running OS X 10.5 or later

Instructions

1. Open a new Finder window by clicking on the icon in the Dock.

2. Locate the M4V file that you want to convert to the MP4 format.

3. Click on the M4V file to highlight it.

4. Press the "Enter" key on your keyboard to edit the file's name and extension.

5. Replace ".mv4" in the file name with ".mp4" and hit the "Enter" key again.

6. Click on the the "Use .mp4" button to confirm your decision to convert the file.
