Polar-Fleece-Cap Sewing Instructions
Polar fleece is a synthetic material used to make winter blankets and clothing. It is a durable napped fabric that is warm and soft. Because of its warmth and durability, it is often used by the home seamstress to make winter apparel such as scarves and sweatshirts. Another common piece of clothing to make at home is caps. You can make your own cap using polar fleece for little money and in a short time. Does this Spark an idea?

Use a soft measuring tape to measure your head. Make sure you include your ears when measuring. Add 1/4 inch to your measurement. Cut your polar fleece to match this measurement. If you are making a hat for an adult, cut the fabric 13 inches long; for a child, cut it 10 inches long.

Bring the long ends of the fabric together to form a tube. Use straight pins to secure these sides together so that the right sides of the fabric are facing each other and the wrong sides are facing out. Use your sewing machine, threaded with thread that coordinates with your fabric color, to sew along the hem of the fabric where you pinned it. Remove the straight pins.

Use straight pins to pin the hem of the top of the hat. Use your sewing machine to sew along this hem. Remove the straight pins.

Turn your hat right side out. Fold the edge on the bottom open end of the hat upward 1/4 inch. Fold it up another three inches and pin it in place using straight pins. Use your sewing machine to hem along the edge of the straight pins. Remove the straight pins.

Tips & Warnings
If you find your seams are protruding more than you would like once your sewing is complete, you can cut them down using fabric scissors. Cut the fabric as close to the hem as possible without cutting the hem.
