Lips can be vulnerable to sun damage and dehydration just like the rest of the body, especially when exposed to the sun on a long-term basis. While there are a wide variety of products available for lips available at most grocery stores, drug stores and beauty stores, many do not have moisturizing properties or SPF. There are some important things to look for when choosing a lip balm with zinc oxide and sunscreen. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Look for lip balm that features an SPF of 15 or higher. This protects lips from the damaging effects of the sun. Products that protect against both UVA and UVB rays provide broad spectrum protection.
-
2
Find a lip balm that also contains zinc oxide, which is a topical agent that provides a physical barrier against the damaging rays of the sun. Zinc oxide can leave a slight white coating on the lips. Blend into the lips well and use the product sparingly to minimize this effect.

3
Watch for lip balms that are chemical free and/or fragrance free if you have experienced allergies or chemical sensitivities from similar products.
-
4
Look for lip balms with zinc oxide and sunscreen at grocery stores, drug stores or beauty supply stores. Read ingredients carefully to ensure that zinc oxide is listed as one of the primary ingredients.
-
5
Discontinue use if itching, swelling, rash or shortness of breath occurs, as these symptoms may indicate an allergic reaction. Consult a doctor with any questions.
