How to Prevent Hair From Falling Out in Women
Many hormonal changes affect women at several stages in their lives. Puberty, pregnancy, childbirth, perimenopause and menopause bring about hormonal imbalances that can cause hair to fall out in more-than-normal amounts. In addition, genetic susceptibility to hair loss can add to the hormonal problems. While not much can be done to change genetic factors or natural hormone changes, some proactive nutrition and haircare practices can prevent or greatly reduce the rate at which hair falls out. 1
Eat a wholesome diet that includes high-quality foods such as whole grains, lean protein and antioxidant-rich herbs, fruits and vegetables. A balanced diet can correct or prevent many nutrient and micro-nutrient deficiencies that can lead to hair loss.
-
2
Correct an iron deficiency as soon as possible by eating iron-rich foods. Menstruating women on restricted diets may suffer from iron deficiencies and experience hair loss. If you are a vegetarian, eat plant foods rich in iron, such as whole grains and legumes, with foods rich in vitamin C, such as citrus fruits and berries, to increase iron absorption.

3
Include plenty of foods rich in omega-3 fatty acids such as salmon, walnuts and flax seeds in your diet. Omega-3 fatty acids act like internal moisturizers and nourish hair from the inside out. Alternatively, take a fish oil or flax oil supplement.

5
Use natural shampoos that don't contain sodium lauryl sulphate (SLS). SLS, which is used to create lather in shampoos, can irritate the scalp and lead to scalp and hair disorders. Also, choose a shampoo that contains ingredients such as vitamin B5 and protein. Vitamin B5, also known as panthenol, and protein in the form of wheat protein or hydrolyzed soy protein, add luster and bounce to hair, in addition to nourishing the scalp.

6
Treat hair gently by not using hot water to wash hair or excessive heat to dry and style. Air-dry your hair whenever possible and avoid hairstyles that strain the hair such as tight ponytails and braids.
