Homemade lip glosses provide a glaze of moisture to parched lips.

Homemade lip gloss is a natural alternative to commercial varieties. For those who want to avoid chemicals in personal care products, homemade cosmetics offer the knowledge of what ingredients are used. Vaseline, beeswax, honey and moisturizing almond oil are melted and mixed together to form a smooth, sweet and minty treat for the mouth, without chemically processed preservatives. Instructions

    • 1

Melt Vaseline and beeswax in a microwave oven for 20 seconds using a small glass bowl. Microwave times will vary. Remove bowl from the microwave and stir well.

    • 2

Add 2 teaspoons of almond oil to the Vaseline. Olive oil may also be used if almond oil is not available. If using olive oil, use a light variety. The taste of extra virgin olive oil is too strong for lip gloss.

    • 3

Drop 2 drops of peppermint oil and 1/2 teaspoon of honey to the mixture. Mix all of the ingredients together until completely incorporated. Mixture will be warm and thin.

    • 4

Pour the lip gloss into a shallow container. Place the lid on the container. Allow to cool and set before using the lip gloss.

    • 5

Apply a small amount of lip gloss using finger or a lip brush. Rub lips together to finish application. Reapply the gloss as desired.

Tips & Warnings

  • Add color to the lip gloss by adding a small amount of melted leftover lipstick to the homemade lip gloss.

  • Some people are allergic to certain oils. Do not use oils that cause irritation.
