Learning a new language can be exciting and challenging. Many people learn a new language when they plan to someday travel to a country where the people primarily speak that language. Others may learn a new language for a job or maybe even just for fun. One language that you can learn to speak is Hindi, the official language of India. When learning to speak Hindi, you'll also need to learn Hindi writing because the language uses a different alphabet than English uses.

      Familiarize yourself with the Hindi alphabet, which is known as the Varnamala alphabet. Each letter in the Varnamala alphabet is written in the Devanāgarī script, which contains both vowels and consonants, each with its own symbol. There are 57 different symbols to learn to understand written Hindi.

      Learn the Hindi language. Before you can start learning to write in Hindi, you should learn to speak the language. There are 52 different sounds that you will make when speaking the language. Ten are vowel sounds, 40 are consonant sounds, and the other two are sounds specific to the language made by altering the way you use your breath when you say them. Taking a formal course is a good place to start. Colleges offer courses in Hindi, and you can also find courses online. Self-taught programs, such as Rosetta Stone software, can also be used to learn Hindi.

      Practice writing in Hindi. While you learn the language, be sure to practice writing the symbols for letters in the alphabet and writing full words. The more you practice, the easier it will be to write the symbols. Later, when you have perfected the writing system, you can learn learn Hindi shorthand, which combines vowels and consonants in the same symbol.

      Read Hindi works. Reading materials that are written in Hindi will help further familiarize you with Hindi writing, which will make it easier to learn. Along with your Hindi lesson books, also try to read books and articles that are written in Hindi. This will give you a feel for the culture behind the writings.
