Yamaha Resonite Clarinet Cleaning Instructions
There are many brands of clarinets available; Yamaha models are widely available and generally affordable. Their resonite (plastic) clarinet is perfect for beginners because it is easy to play and maintain. While the beginner learns to play the instrument, she should also learn how to take care of the clarinet with regular cleaning and maintenance. Cleaning this clarinet is fairly easy; it should be done after every session.
Things You'll Need
- Medium-to-large swab cloth
- Pad cleaning paper
- Polishing cloth
- Tone hole cleaner paper
- Cork grease

Remove the reed from the mouthpiece, thoroughly drying it and setting it in the case.

Swab out the interior of the clarinet with a cleaning cloth to remove any moisture.

Pull the upper joint and lower joint apart, removing the bell as well.

Swab again, this time concentrating on the joint ends. Rub the cork joint ends with cork grease.

Use a drying pad to soak up any moisture on the clarinet's keys by placing it in between each pad and its tone hole, then pressing down carefully.

Polish the exterior of the clarinet with a polishing cloth, wiping away all fingerprints and moisture.

Tighten any loose screws on the clarinet gently before putting all the parts away in the case.

Tips & Warnings
Once a month, add a small amount of medium key oil at the joints of all the keys. This, along with regular cleaning, will prevent the keys from sticking.
