Towing Instructions for a Polaris ATV

If you want to take your Polaris off the beaten path and that path is many miles down the road, you need to know how to tow your ATV. On some Polaris models, there is a grille guard while other models aren't so equipped, so the best way to tow the Polaris is to connect your tow strap to the center of the front axle base. You will also need a tow vehicle capable of safely hauling the weight of the Polaris.

Instructions

    • 1

Locate the center of the front axle in front of the gas tank and under the handlebars. The center of the axle will be where the right and left control arms meet at the connector between the two control arms.

    • 2

Loop a tow strap around the connector in the center of the axle, placing the straight end through the hole on the opposite end. If your tow strap has a hook, then once you have looped the strap around the connector, lock the hook onto the strap to secure it in place.

    • 3

Back the tow vehicle to the front of the Polaris. Guide the opposite end of the strap to the tow vehicle's rear end. Connect the strap to the sissy bar on the rear of the tow vehicle if the tow vehicle is another ATV. Connect the strap to the bumper or frame if the tow vehicle is a truck.

    • 4

Start the engines of both the Polaris and the tow vehicle. Move the tow vehicle forward slightly to tighten the tow strap. As the tow vehicle moves forward, give the Polaris gas so that both vehicles are moving at the same speed. Do not jerk the tow strap while moving the Polaris.

Tips & Warnings

  • Jerking the tow strap at any point in this process will damage the front axle of the Polaris.

  • Take your time, while towing your Polaris, to avoid damaging it.
