How to Cut Black Men's Wavy Hair
In order to cut short, wavy hair on Black men, you must combine freehand-cutting with electric clippers to create a sculpture cut. Freehand-cutting is a cutting technique that allows you to trim and finish the hair without grabbing it; while sculpture cuts allow you to cut the hair very close to the skin and is appropriate for creating a fade, according to Maurice Lister, author of "Men's Hairdressing: Traditional and Modern Barbering." A sculpture cut is also known as a crew cut and is easy to manage due to the low maintenance of the cut, according to Lister. Does this Spark an idea?

Continue gliding the clippers in an upward motion from one side of the head to the other. Pivot the clippers away from the head to create a graduated length.

Use a #1A or 1-1/2 blade on the clippers to trim the top of the hair. Move the clippers over the hair in the direction of the hair growth.

Set the clippers back to a #1 blade and move the clippers on the line that separates the crown of the hair and the tapered section to blend the two sections.
