How to Clean the EGR Valve on a 1994 Intrepid 3.3

The EGR valve assembly on a 1994 Dodge Intrepid 3.3 uses two components: the EGR valve and a transducer. The transducer does not need to be removed if you are just cleaning the EGR valve. However, the transducer and valve on the Intrepid work in tandem, so if you do end up needing to replace the valve, you should also replace the transducer. The valve itself is circular in shape and is mounted on the intake manifold of your engine. Once you've removed the valve portion of the assembly, you'll need to clean it.

Things You'll Need

• Pipe cleaner brush
• Carburetor cleaner
• Catch pan
• Pick tool

Instructions

1. Locate the valve opening on the bottom of the EGR valve. Use the pick tool to gently remove any loose debris and carbon from the valve opening.

2. Spray the valve opening with carburetor cleaner and scrub the opening with a flexible pipe cleaning brush. Make sure that you do a good job of removing all of the carbon buildup as this is what is preventing the valve's plunger from opening and closing. Proper valve opening is essential for the exhaust gasses to circulate.

3. Flush the valve opening with carburetor cleaner and dispose of the cleaner in a catch pan. When the valve is dry, reinstall it on your Intrepid.
