Tightening shooting strings make for a perfect release.

Shooting strings on a lacrosse stick allow the ball to project from the stick in a smooth manner without hitting the plastic. Each person has to develop a feel for his stick to determine the number of shooting strings needed. Once that is determined, you must tighten the strings in the correct order to maximize their effectiveness.

Instructions

    • 1

Run the first shooting string across the top of the head, going through the holes provided on the stick. To tighten this string, pull the part of the string that goes through the hole, closest to where the knot is tied. When desired tightness is reached, continue to hold while pulling the other half of the string taunt around that string. Tie the two pieces of string in a knot.

    • 2

Run the second string from side wall lace to side wall lace. This string should be slightly looser than the top shooting string. Follow the same procedure as the top string. This will create a gradual release in the pocket of the head.

    • 3

Run the third string, if needed, from side wall string to side wall string. Follow the same steps to tie as the previous strings, assuring that this string is looser than the second string, creating a ramp in the head.

Tips & Warnings

  • Strings might need to be adjusted several times before getting the perfect release.
