Look online for free resources. Type "free outdoor project plans" into any search engine and browse through the sites that pop up. Look for blogs, as people are so willing to post their own DIY projects for the whole world to see, complete with thorough instructions and pictures.
-
2
Go to the library and check out books on different outdoor projects. Borrow the books for free, peruse them and get some new ideas for your outdoor projects. Follow the directions in the books before returning them.

3
Check at your local hardware store as they sometimes make outdoor project plans available. Look near the lumber section or do not be afraid to ask one of the employees. Watch for advertisements for classes on outdoor projects the stores offer free of charge if you purchase the project supplies from them.
-
4
Wander around your neighborhood and see what your neighbors are doing. Ask your neighbors if they still have the plans that you can borrow for projects you like.
-
5
Ask your friends who do a lot of outdoor projects if they have any books you can borrow for ideas.
-
6
Visit home shows in your area or within a reasonable driving distance. Look at every booth that offers any outdoor items. Companies often give away free plans, hoping you will buy their products. Use the free plans, but not necessarily their particular products, to help you come up with ideas for your yard.

7
Place a free ad online or in some local paper. State that you are looking for outdoor project ideas and that you will take complete plans on paper or books.

Tips & Warnings
Talk to the experts. Find a local contractor and have him come and look at your yard and see if he has any project ideas. Some contractors will come and give free estimates.
When borrowing books from the library or someone else do not photocopy the pages. This is illegal. Keep a friend's book for as long as you need to finish the project or renew it from the library.
