Tennessee is a great place to live.

Tennessee, the Volunteer State, is a wonderful place to live. Tennessee is located in the southeastern U.S., and borders eight other states including Mississippi, Georgia, and Alabama to the south, Kentucky and Virginia to the north, North Carolina to the east, and Arkansas and Missouri to the west. The state capital is Nashville. The state has a population of almost 6,000,000 and has a pleasant southern climate, with relatively little freezing weather in the winter.

It is easy to live in Tennessee, as it has a diversified and healthy economy, with relatively low unemployment rate, a below-average cost of living, and reasonably priced housing. Memphis is the largest city in Tennessee and it has added over 125,000 residents in the last decade.

      Research where you want to live in Tennessee. Memphis and Nashville are the two major cities, but there are also many inviting smaller cities and towns like Chattanooga or Knoxville or Tullahoma if you prefer the slower pace of life in a small town. There is a great deal of information about Tennessee available online or you can go your local library to do your research.

      Get a job in Tennessee. There are many good job opportunities in Tennessee today compared to most other places in the country. Tennessee has a diverse economic base, including mining (coal, uranium), farming (tobacco, soybeans, cotton), automobile manufacturing, music and tourism. It's housing market has been more stable than most states. Tennessee is projected to be one of the top five states for job growth in the next decade. Tennessee has no state income tax and according to the CCER in 2009 had a cost of living 10% below the national average. (Ref. 3)

      Enjoy your free time in Tennessee. Tennessee is a great place to live if you are an outdoor recreation enthusiast, especially boating, fishing, swimming etc. as the Mississippi, Tennessee, and Cumberland rivers all flow through Tennessee (also five major lakes). Tennessee also has over 30 state parks (Ref. 2) If you are a sports fan Tennessee boasts three professional sports teams - the Tennessee Titans of the NFL, the Memphis Grizzlies of the NBA, and the Nashville Predators of the NHL.

      Become a legal resident of Tennessee. If you move to Tennessee (on a permanent basis) you are required to become a legal resident of the state.
