Faux wooden blinds have the look of real wooden blinds, but without the cost. The blinds are also durable; available in a variety of sizes and types; and found at a number of outlets including home improvement stores, retail superstores and online. But faux wooden blinds are not immune to dirt, dust and grime buildup. When cleaning faux wooden blinds, you can't immerse them in water like aluminum and vinyl blinds or use a harsh abrasive cleaner. Harsh cleaners and excessive water can damage the blinds. Things You'll Need

  • Bucket
  • Lukewarm water
  • Latex gloves
  • Soft cloth or sponge
  • Two clean cloths or rags
  • Mild dishwashing soap

Instructions

  1. General Cleaning

    • 1

      Fill a bucket with a half gallon of lukewarm water. Wear latex gloves to keep your hands clean.

      Dip a soft cloth or sponge in the bucket of water. Wring out excess until the cloth or sponge is damp. Wipe your faux wooden blinds thoroughly with the damp cloth or sponge.

      Re-dip the cloth or sponge in the bucket. Wring out excess and wipe the blinds again to ensure the blinds do not contain spots of dust and dirt.

      Dry the faux wooden blinds with a clean cloth or rag.

    Removing Heavy Grime

      Fill a bucket with a half gallon of lukewarm water and one half cup of a mild dishwashing soap. Stir the solution with a cloth or sponge. Wear latex gloves to keep your hands clean.

      Wring out excess solution from the cloth or sponge. Wipe your faux wooden blinds thoroughly with the solution-soaked cloth or sponge.

      Re-dip the cloth or sponge in the bucket. Wring out excess. Continue wiping the blinds until the grime is gone.

      Wet a clean cloth or sponge with lukewarm water from a sink. Wring out excess. Wipe your faux wooden blinds thoroughly with the damp cloth or sponge.

      Dry the blinds with a clean cloth or rag.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can also clean your faux window blinds using your vacuum cleaner's brush attachment if the blinds do not contain heavy grime buildup.

  • Do not immerse your faux wooden blinds in water or any type of soap solution--this will damage the blinds.
