DIY Reptile Incubator
A good way to ensure that your pet reptile eggs develop and hatch properly is to remove them from the parent's enclosure and transfer them to an incubator. Different species of reptiles have different incubation requirements, so an adjustable incubator is essential to maintain the proper environmental conditions for reptile eggs. With a little time and a few basic supplies, you can make a reptile incubator and facilitate healthy development of your new baby reptiles.

Things You'll Need
- 10- to 20-gallon aquarium
- Adjustable aquarium heater
- Small plastic container
- Vermiculite
- Thermometer
- Humidity gauge
- 2 clean bricks

Gently place the two bricks into the glass aquarium and add water. Fill the tank until only the top of the bricks are exposed above the water level.

Add the aquarium water heater and activate to the desired temperature setting. The warm water will provide the heat and humidity necessary for successful development of your reptile eggs.

Fill the small plastic container with 2 to 3 inches of vermiculite.

Place the small plastic box in the aquarium and ensure that it rests solidly on the bricks above the water.

Fasten the thermometer and humidity gauge as close to the vermiculite substrate as possible so that accurate conditions where the eggs are developing can be read.

Secure the top and ensure that the desired environmental conditions for the species of reptile that you attempt to breed are maintained before adding the eggs to the vermiculite.

Tips & Warnings
Depending on the type of top you have for the aquarium, you may need to place plastic wrap over the aquarium to maintain proper humidity levels.
Be aware of the risk of drowning of hatchlings with this design. It is a good idea to place some cover over the water or the small container holding the eggs to prevent small reptiles from drowning in the water below.
