Most residential garage doors around the United States since the 1990s have become overhead doors with automatic openers. With different manufacturers like Sears, Craftsman and Liftmaster, overhead doors feature motor units and garage opener remotes. These remotes can be programmed or reprogrammed in just minutes from your garage using only the remote itself and access to your motor unit.       Enter your garage with your remote opener and press and release the "smart" button on your garage motor unit. This button is located on the side of the overhead unit near the antenna wire.

      Wait for the motor unit's red indicator light to begin blinking and press the "Open" button that you wish to program on your wireless remote. You will have to press the button three times in a row in quick order.

      Wait for the light to blink on the system and for the blinking pattern to stop after 30 seconds and your remote will be programmed to your overhead door and ready for use.
