How to Export the URL Links in a PDF File

How to Export the URL Links in a PDF File thumbnail
URL links, used to navigate to specific websites, can be exported from a PDF file.

PDF files often contain data beyond simple text. Images, embedded videos and links can be included in PDF documents to make them more relevant or useful for the reader. According to PDF-File.com, PDF files also can be secured with passwords and other restrictions. They may not be able to be altered or resaved. If you want to edit or save URL links from the file for future use, you will have to export those links from the file for use with a different program, such as a word processor or Web browser.

Instructions

    • 1

Move your mouse cursor just to the right of the URL-linked text that you want to export. Depending on your PDF viewer, clicking directly on the link may cause it to open in a browser.

    • 2

Click and hold the left mouse button.

    • 3

Drag your mouse cursor over the linked text while still holding down the mouse button.

    • 4

Right-click on the highlighted text. A series of options will appear on screen.

    • 5

Click "copy hyperlink." Do not click "copy text," this will not extract the URL. Instead, you will be left with plain text and no links.

    • 6

Open your preferred word processor, spreadsheet software or web browser. With the URL copied, you can now drop it into any program that supports URL web addresses.

    • 7

Right-click on a blank area of the document or web browser navigation window. A menu will appear with some clickable options.

    • 8

Click on "paste." The URL will appear in the blank area for you to edit or save.
