Use his favorite hero or a combination of different superheroes if his favorite changes from week to week or if he likes to play superhero and hasn't figured out which powers he wants to possess. The entire room can be saturated with superhero colors and accessories, or a few well-placed items that stand out among neutral decor and can easily be updated as his tastes change. Instructions

    • 1

Paint the walls in a bright color that works with different superheroes, such as blue, red or yellow, or a combination of different colors. For example, paint each wall in a different primary color so that each superhero will have a wall to call home. Paint a large mural that depicts a scene featuring his favorite hero if you have the artistic ability or stencils.

    • 2

If you can't or don't want to paint, decorate plain or neutral walls with removable adhesive decals or a superhero border, stencil a custom border or frame comic books or superhero posters. Removable adhesive decals are widely available in numerous shapes, sizes and colors and give your child the ability to move his superheroes around as he sees fit.

    • 3

Place a bed and other bedroom furniture in the room that fit in with the color scheme. Bright red, green or blue furnishings can contribute to the superhero theme if the walls aren't bright and busy. Or opt for neutral furniture that can take your child from his superhero theme to more mature decor in the future. Position the furniture against the walls to leave room for your son to play out his superhero fantasies.

    • 4

Make the bed using a comforter, sheets and pillows in his favorite superhero colors or with images of various superheroes. Use comic book superhero bedding if he enjoys the comic heroes more. Use solid-colored bedding with a couple of accent pillows if your son's bedroom theme changes frequently.

    • 5

Hang curtains that play off the walls and bedding. For example, hang solid panels or comic book-style curtains if the walls are plain white with framed posters and the bedding has a comic book superhero scene.

    • 6

Accessorize the room with items that fit in with the superhero theme and make your child comfortable. Hang a large spiderweb-type net in one corner to hold large superhero action figures or line his action figures up on top of a dresser or shelf so they are easy to get to and add to the decor. Hang superhero costumes or capes on the walls---within reach if he enjoys dressing up. Use a superhero night-light, clock, lamp and rug to pull the room together.

Tips & Warnings

  • Keep valuable collectible action figures or comic books up higher so your child can't get to them, while still making those items a part of his decor.

  • Avoid placing the furniture or other items in a way that can pose potentially dangerous situations, such as heavy shelves he might climb and jump off. Opt for sturdier furniture that's lower to the ground, which is more practical for young children.
