How to Change a Default Email Program to Gmail

Google Mail or "Gmail" is a free Web-based email client. It gives you more storage space than several other free Web-based email clients. As of June 2010, Gmail offers you more than 7 gigabytes of free storage for your messages and attachments. You can choose Gmail as your default email program on your Windows operating system. In other words, when you click on any email address, Windows will direct you to your Gmail account to compose the email.

Instructions

      Log in to your computer using your "Administrator" profile/account. Launch Internet Explorer from the Start menu.

      Click on "Tools" and select "Internet Options."

      Hit the "Programs" tab.

      Click on the drop-down menu under "E-mail" and select "Gmail" from the list.

      Click on "Apply" and hit "OK."
