How to Reduce Dust Mites in Pillows and Bedding

How to Reduce Dust Mites in Pillows and Bedding thumbnail
Exposure to dust mites early on can lead to allergies in children.

Dust mites are microscopic insects that feed on dead skin cells shed by humans and pets. Although harmless, some people are sensitive to dust-mite feces and skin castings, and they develop allergy symptoms or asthma. It is especially important to protect infants from dust mites during their first year as exposure may create lifelong sensitivity. Dust mites like a warm, humid environment and thrive in the soft materials such as carpeting, upholstered furniture and bedding. Pillows and bedding provide the perfect habitat for dust mites. You can reduce dust mites in pillows and bedding through preventive measures and regular cleaning.
